Example Application
A Patient Master Index in a teaching hospital typically
contains 3-5% duplicate patient registrations. In absolute terms this equates
to 40,000-50,000 duplicate records. In a clinical care setting this may compromise patient
care by making it difficult to locate complete patient records in an emergency. Critical information such as drug and other allergies
might not be available, or tests might be re-ordered unnecessarily.
